Bat For Lashes

Music > Bat For Lashes

Bat For Lashes is the alias for Brighton-based singer-songwriter Natasha Khan. A graduate in Music and Visual Arts, Khan has long been experimenting with multimedia, music and visual-based projects. This love for creating unique pieces of work is clearly visible in Khan's music which takes a storytelling approach that evokes images, characters and landscapes. Her eerily and almost ghost-like voice captures and effortlessly transports you to another place; a fantastical and surreal world where escapism is the desired effect. Her more traditional influences (The Cranberries, Fleetwood Mac) are certainly apparent in her second album Two Suns, yet Khan has skilfully combined it with the very current synth-based tones that have become the sound of choice for so many new acts.

Khan's debut album Fur & Gold was impressively shortlisted for the 2007 Mercury Prize and two Brit nominations followed in 2008. Her gradual increase in popularity has not gone unnoticed, especially in America where they have embraced her distinctive sound that comprises a whole breadth of instruments and haunting poetic lyrics.
