Leona Lewis

There aren't many people who can make Simon Cowell gush, but Leona Lewis is one of them. The transformation of the shy girl from Hackney into a pop superstar is now complete: Clive Davis is on-board, Whitney is reportedly coaching from the side, and in the video for single "Bleeding Love", Leona is dressed in a D&G crystal-encrusted dress, which has since been loaned out to none other than Victoria Beckham.
It's all a far cry from the streets of East London where Leona grew up. A Stage School starlet from a young age, she's been trying to crack the big time for a number of years now, but it took a stint on the X Factor to finally alert the world to her stylishly gymnastic vocals. She swept aside the competition with a breathtaking version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" to scoop the 2006 title, and then scored a No.1 with a cover of Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This".
But that was all a rehearsal for the real thing - her debut album, "Spirit". It's sure to make Leona a household name, hitting the high notes both musically and financially. Critics have accused it of being too American and saccharine, but single "Bleeding Love" proved stubborn to budge at the top of the charts, and with good reason too: we reckon it's up there as the single of the year.
With a £5million 5-album deal secured, this is surely just the beginning for Leona.
